In the Works

October 23, 2011 Spite's Writings 8 Comments

Paul Spite Broken PencilAuthor Paul Spite has many literary irons in the fire and they are white hot. With a unique writing style all his own, Paul interweaves fiction like a master tailor weaves his wares. What is Paul working on? Take a look at some of the projects that are “in the works.”

The Game of Life Series

The Game of Life is a six novel series titled around the game of Chess. The first installment, The Power of a Pawn, is scheduled to be published Winter 2011-2011. This series will leave you stunned, shocked and speechless, guaranteed. We don’t want to give too much away, but we have posted

a gripping excerpt from The Power of a Pawn for your enjoyment.

Here are the working titles for all six novels in The Game of Life series, as well as teasers to make you want more!

The Power of a Pawn

She stands accused of the most horrible of crimes a woman can commit. But not even literally to save her own life, can Amanda recall anything that happened that night. She soon finds herself as the focus of power struggles from which oblivion would be sweet release. Her end to pain and society’s revenge are both placed on hold when her life and fate become inextricably linked to those of an innocent bystander.

Knight Maneuvers

The patient was obviously in danger of losing his life. No one suspected it would happen at the hand of a total stranger, entering his room to unplug the life support machinery. Equally incomprehensible were the multiple people lining up to claim responsibility for the deed. Especially since none of them actually killed the patient.

A Queen Imperious

In the cold and lonely world of self, the lives and loves of others are without value. Some are even expendable for profit and power. When Liza’s unborn child dies in an alcohol induced crash, she is determined someone will pay. One man stands between her and her spiteful revenge. One man, inspired by the love of one mother, will ultimately reveal how little significance such love can hold for another.

Attack of the Bishop

In a world of double standards, Pastor Peter is like an unmoving rock. There is no question where he stands when two of his parishioners are arrested for first seeking prayer for their baby, rather than a physician. They are not even permitted to attend the funeral of their deceased child. Their pastor’s defense is simple and direct. He simply wants justice. In his world, the rulers of men should answer for their actions according to the same measure by which they measure others. All he must do is find an inexpensive but competent lawyer willing to wage a solitary battle against an entire state.

Fall of the King

In the words of an old song, “someone’s gonna get hurt before we’re through.” It is difficult to try the federal government for its actions against its own citizens. This becomes impossible when the case is tried in a courtroom owned by the plaintiff, staffed by employees of the plaintiff, and decided upon by citizen components of the plaintiff. But the trial is a necessary formality before justice can be sought at the highest level. That will not be the Supreme Court.

The Missing Piece

God breathed into man and man became a living soul. In our first mistake, we sought to be like God. Our last mistake will be our quest to replace Him. We have entered His domain and exercised the prerogative of God alone. But as any good machinist could have told us, with any complex creation, it is the missing piece that can destroy you.

Paul’s writing does not end with The Game of Life. Below are other projects he is currently working on:

The Last Plague

We called him by many names, “the Reaper” among them. He did for us what we lacked the fortitude to accomplish ourselves. He saved us from our own foolish decisions. So we killed him. Too bad we failed once again to first consider the costs.

Thou Shalt Not

The establishment of Law is necessary for both the creation and sustaining of society. Louis Brennan not only believes this, but is willing to sacrifice himself on that altar. He will not survive the preservation of his creation. That is good. He will be better off dead than aware of the collateral damage to those he loves.

The Parable Worker Series

One man does indeed know what evil lurks in the hearts of men. He exploits it for profit. Between Mr. Big and success stands a simple preacher named John. He bears the name of a disciple and a similar unshakeable belief in God. Armed only with these and a love for his young congregation, he is also inadvertently destroying an empire of crime. The worlds of these two overlap in space and time, but they can not do so for long.

“Breaking In” Newsletters

These newsletters are designed to be sent twice a month into jails and prisons. Each contains a self directed Bible study, another brief essay, humor, uplifting scriptures, a daily Bible reading chart and space for a personal message from the correspondent. The act of sending them conveys the simple message, “You are not forgotten and someone still cares.”

Thanks for taking the time to read up on the excitement strewn across Paul’s writing desk. Stay tuned for much, much more – if you have anything to do with it!

Thank you for the teasers on the 6 books in the Game of Life — just makes me hope the they are written soon :)

I am intrigued with the other story you have titled “The last plague”. Have you written more on this one too?

  2. Enid says:

Will definately keep checking in for updates, not only on The Game of Life, which I happily follow on Facebook, but the other projects you have going. They all sound exciting.

  3. Lori Ann, The Last Plague is a complete short story at this point. It may be a novel one of these days (I sure hope so) – talk about a page-turner! Both Paul and the rest of our team wish that he could write full-time…we pray for the day when that can happen!

  4. Enid says:

Until Paul can write full time, expanding on these and other large projects, a prayer I am in agreement with you, I pray God will give him more of the touching poetry he has shared here.

  5. They all sound excellent. Of course I want the books, and as quickly as possible, but I am also very intrigued by Breaking In. That sounds like a much more vital ministry than keeping me entertained…although, keep that ministry flourishing, too!! :)

You are such a talented author, and I am happy to read your books just as quickly as you can produce them!!

  6. So as a new author myself, I just finished my second edit of the first book in a planned series. By planned, I mean that I expect to write more, at some point, hopefully.

How does Paul plan a 6 book series out? Mine are kids books, for the Christian childrens market. Because they are so short, and yet difficult to write (almost as challenging as reading it), I can’t imagine the process for writing a series of full length novels. Would love some insight in to the process.

  7. Linda Rahaim says:

wow Paul, those books really sound like excellent teasers!!! sounds like the kind of books, I would love to read. especially the one called The Missing Piece; sounds like it will be quite riveting. :)

  8. Dale says:

You plan on keeping busy! Keep us posted.
